IngestmacOS asks before an app reads a removable volume. Allow it, or Ingest cannot see your cards. If you dismissed it, the switch is in System Settings, Privacy & Security, Files and Folders.
Connecting to Apple Photos or sending files to it requests Photos read/write permission. Ingest uses your System Photo Library, not an arbitrary library file. If Connect did nothing in an older beta, update to the current release and try again. If access was denied, choose Open Photos Privacy Settings, enable Ingest, and return to the app. Settings → General controls Apple Photos integration for the app, and each workspace has its own switch. Both must be on. Turning integration off hides Photos controls and stops observation; it preserves your saved state. An action that runs a Shortcut asks for permission to control Shortcuts when needed.
