I entered a location, but there is no map pin

Descriptive city, state, country, and place names are different from GPS coordinates. In Metadata Assist, type ;loc, choose Map Location, and press Return. Search Apple Maps, select a result, review its pin, and apply it to the intended photos.

When checking another app, open the edited copies, not card originals. Apple Photos may not read a RAW XMP sidecar; export a JPEG with metadata and GPS included if those fields must travel. GPS and descriptive locations →
